Some of us are out here living lives that no longer feel meant for us. We wake up uninspired, go through the motions, and quietly wonder, “Is this it?” A life change can feel daunting, but so can staying stuck in a life that no longer feels like your own.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. I’ve been there too—multiple times. Life pivots are a big part of my story, and I know firsthand how hard it can be to recognize when it’s time for a shift. But I also know the power of taking that leap.
So if you’re feeling stuck, here are five signs that change might be calling your name.
How to Know It’s Time for a Life Change
You’ve Lost Your Excitement for Life
I wholeheartedly believe that life is meant to be enjoyed. We’re not meant to wake up dreading the day ahead and force ourselves through a routine that drains us.
For me, this realization hit hard after college. I chose a career based on financial security rather than passion, and that choice landed me in a job I hated. It affected my mental and emotional well-being, relationships, and even my physical health. For years, I woke up dreading the day, and went to sleep dreading the next morning.
That is no way to live. If the idea of your day feels heavy before it even begins, it may be time to make a life change.
You Keep Asking, “Is There More?”
On paper, you’ve done everything “right.” You’ve checked all the boxes—career, home, relationships. And yet, there’s an emptiness. A quiet (or loud) voice inside you asking, “Is this it?”
I’ve had this conversation with so many clients, and I’ve lived it myself. A few years ago, I was living a comfortable life—a good-paying job, a nice apartment, and a stable routine. But despite my gratitude, I couldn’t stop wondering if I was meant to do just this for the next 50 years.
If you find yourself asking this, the answer is probably yes—there is more for you. More to experience, more to create, more to step into. But accessing that “more” may require a shift.
Your Life Feels Misaligned with Your Values
One of the biggest sources of unhappiness is living a life that doesn’t reflect what truly matters to you.
What felt important in your 20s may not align with what you need now. Our values change over time. So, If you don’t intentionally check in with yourself, you may find yourself living by an outdated version of your priorities.
If your daily choices, work, or lifestyle don’t match what’s truly meaningful to you anymore, that misalignment will start to feel unbearable. You may start to feel pulled in a more aligned direction.
You Constantly Imagine a Different Path
If you find yourself regularly fantasizing about another career, a different lifestyle, or an adventure, it’s probably not just random daydreaming—it’s your subconscious speaking to you.
Pay attention to how those thoughts make you feel. Feelings of excitement, expansion, and possibility, might be your intuition nudging you toward something deeper.
If your thoughts lean towards “What if I had chosen differently?” or “What if I had taken that other path?” that might signal unfinished business worth exploring.
You Know You’re Capable of More
Deep down, you feel like you’re playing small. You’re not stretching yourself the way you could be. You know you have more to offer, more to explore, more to be.
This could mean that you’ve outgrown your current situation and need a new challenge. Or perhaps, you’re settling for “good enough” when something greater is calling you. Fear is holding you back from stepping into the next level of your life.
Feeling capable of more isn’t about dissatisfaction—it’s about expansion. It’s about recognizing that you are meant to grow, and making the necessary changes for your development.
If any of these signs resonated with you, you might be standing at the edge of a life change. And while that edge can feel scary, it’s also where transformation begins.
You don’t have to figure it all out overnight. You don’t need to have a perfect plan. But you do need to listen to yourself. Trust that voice inside you. And take one step in the direction that feels right.
